Lucky 7 for Manning at Chicago

Sportsdrink+ athlete Darren Manning drove the No. 14 to his seventh "Top 10" result of the year as he finished seventh at Chicagoland Speedway on Sunday afternoon.  In the final points race of the season, Manning moved up to 14th in the overall standings.  He missed finishing in 13th by just one point.

"In the first part of the race we were just hanging in the draft because they were driving crazy in front of me", said Manning who started in 23rd after some problems in qualifying.  "I wanted to get a good result and I wanted to finish", he continued.  "With 50 laps to go, I really started driving my butt off and I had some good racing with Anthony (A J Foyt IV) who towed me up to the top 10".  "Actually, it was easier to run with the guys at the front", said Manning.  "It was a good race for the ABC Supply Team and we finished the season with another strong result".

Wilson Finishes 4th at Chicagoland

Sportsdrink+ athlete Bobby Wilson only found out on Wednesday that he would be driving the No. 15 National Guard Delphi race car that had amassed a series best four wins this season for Panther Racing.  Bobby Wilson knew that expectations would be high at the Chicagoland Speedway and the new Panther driver did not disappoint battling his way from 12th place on the starting grid to finish 4th in the SunRichGourmet.com 100 race.

Scott Dixon the 2008 Champion

Relief as much as elation coursed through Scott Dixon's veins after claiming his second IndyCar Series crown in Chicago today.

He couldn't help but reflect as he wiped off the traditional cream pie that had been rammed in his face by Target Chip Ganassi teammate Dan Wheldon in the victory circle.  "The year on a whole has been amazing, an unforgettable year", said Dixon who also won the 2003 title.  "Getting married, winning the 500, winning a championship in one year - not too many people can probably say they have done that".

Wil, Powers to 5th Place at Chicagoland

"I have never had so much fun in a race", Sportsdrink+ athlete Will Power said.  "The Aussie Vineyards/Team Australia car was good and the crew did a great job in the pits".  "We picked up positions on almost every stop and had good restarts - everything was good", said Power.  "This has been a challenging season".  "The whole team has worked hard and I am just so happy to be able to have a good finish, especially on a mile and a half oval".  "It really shows the progress the whole KVRT team has made this year", said Power.

Joel Miller Leads the Championship

Sportsdrink+ athlete Joel Miller regained the championship lead this past weekend by finishing second for Round 8 at Mosport International Raceway in Canada.

After qualifying 2nd for the race on Saturday afternoon, Miller was poised for a strong run.  "The past few weeks have been really difficult for sure and I am happy to be starting on the front row", he commented before the race.

Too much wheel spin at the start resulted in Miller falling to 4th place but he regained his composure and took 3rd position with a brave move around the outside of Charles Hall into turn 8 before the first yellow.  Making the most of the restart, Miller passed Edwards for second going into turn 1 and set his sights on the leader.  Unfortunately another full course caution appeared with just under 20 minutes left in the race caused by numerous incidents, the result of oil around the circuit.  The race never went green and ended with the field behind the pace car with Miller in second.  "The car was getting better with each lap", said Miller.  "It would have been interesting to see what would have come from a green-white-checkered finish as we were running a lot less wing than everybody else", Miller said after the race.  With another podium finish this weekend, his 5th in 8 starts, Joel Miller regains the championship lead.

Peppers/Lucas Oil Wins Second Race in a Row

Sportsdrink+ athletes, Mike and George Stancombe were ready when the green flag dropped in Heat 1b.  "We headed to the first turn in the lead and never looked back".  "After completing the race in 1st place we went back to the docks to make the boat even faster for race 2, the final race of the day".  "We had to run the boat very loose and on the edge the whole time", said Mike Stancombe.  "This is do or die, the hero or zero race".  "We will loose the national championship if we don't win this one".

The race started with a mad sprint into turn 1 and looked like Popeye's or Amosil might have had the advantage.  Popeye's pushed Amosil into the side of Peppers nearly blowing Amosil over backwards.  "We managed to come out of turn 1 in the lead and win the 2008 "Thunder in the Gulf" race, regaining the championship lead", said Mike Stancombe.  This race sets up another must win situation for the team at the next race on the Lake of the Ozarks, to be held on September 25-28, 2008.

Lightning-Fast Jaskol Wins at the Bullring

"It was a dark and stormy night", literally at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway Bullring.  The caution plagued 40 lap Super Late Model/Late Model feature was won by Sportsdrink+ athlete Matt Jaskol.  Gafforini, the current points leader lead the way and found himself hunted by Matt Jaskol, Bear Rzesnowiecky and Jeff Connors.  Gafforini slipped at the halfway point and watched the freight train pass him.  Jaskol was the new leader, followed by Connors. 

The lead pair pulled away from the field with five laps remaining and Connors tried every trick in the book to pass Jaskol for the lead as they negotiated lapped traffic.  The cars made contact in turn 4 with the checkered flag in sight but Jaskol, the nights no. 1 qualifier, held on to earn the victory.

Road America Result Drops Joel Miller to 3rd Place

Sportsdrink+ athlete Joel Miller was poised for another podium finish this past weekend at Road America when a mechanical failure forced him out of contention on the last lap.  Miller started 4th for Round 6 of the Star Mazda Championship and took the lead in the early stages of the race.

A track known for large drafting opportunities, Joel fell to 3rd place before a caution slowed the field.  "Something was going wrong during the second caution period because I felt the right side of my suit becoming wet".  "I knew the radiator was on that side of the car and when I got the alarm on the dash for overheating it confirmed my thoughts", said Miller.  "Also, my radio communication with the team and my electronics for the transmission shorted out due to the water damage, I knew it was a matter of time before I would be forced to stop", said Miller.

Peppers Racing Takes Sportsdrink+ to Victory

The Peppers race boat piloted by Sportsdrink+ athletes, George and Mike Stancombe was ready for the challenge set by Bob Teague and Paul Whittier from Team Amosil.  From the drop of the green flag, Peppers went to the lead.  Out of turn 3 they spun the boat and stood it up on its tail.  Never giving up, the boys set about the challenge of catching the Amosil boat.  "Lap by lap we made up the time lost on the incident", said Mike Stancombe.  On lap 7, a full course yellow controlled the event for two laps and shortened the deficit.   When the flag waved green, the Peppers boat faced another challenge, this time from the Popeye's Famous Chicken race boat.  Team Amosil had dropped way back at the first turn and shortly after returned to the docks.  "Out of the first turn we had the lead again and we were not going to make the same mistake", said Mike Stancombe.   After 3 intense laps, the Peppers boat won the Al Copeland Memorial Offshore Race in Kenner.  "We love winning, but this one was really special".  "Al Senior is one of the reasons we race offshore and to win his race, in his town - WOW", said Stancombe.

Dane Cameron Secures Top 5 Result

Sportsdrink+ athlete Dane Cameron, the 2007 Star Mazda Champion who won his Mazda sponsored drive in the 2008 Atlantic Championship, demonstrated just how well the ladder works by scoring a pair of top 5 finishes this past weekend during the IRL event at Edmonton.  He has now scored three top 5 finishes in a row and moved up from 12th to 7th in the Championship points.

"This was a really important weekend and the start of a really critical series of races since we have another double in two weeks at Road America", said the 19 year old native of Sonoma, California.  "It was a big step forward for the team and for me as an Atlantic driver because we were fast right from the start and running at the sharp end of the grid all weekend".  "This knowledge and confidence will make a big difference at Road America and throughout the remainder of the season", said Cameron.

Joel Miller Finishes Third at Portland

Sportsdrink+ athlete Joel Miller finished third in Round 5 of the Star Mazda Championship at Portland International Raceway on Sunday to regain the championship lead by 5 points.

"I wanted to reward my crew by getting on the podium", said Miller.  "Rick Cameron my engineer was coaching me the whole race telling me I was catching third so I kept putting together consistent laps".

In the first five races of the season, Miller has been able to finish on the podium 4 out of 5 times.  "Consistency will win the championship".  "This third place finish gives my team great momentum for the month of August to continue with our consistency", said Miller.

Introducing Chris "The Kid" Fair

Hazardous Pro-Am support team member, Chris "The Kid" Fair took first place at the 2008 National Dragster Challenge in the NHRA Summit Racing Equipment Series at Douglas Motorsports Park on Sunday July 20.  On his way to the final round, "The Kid" achieved first and third in the points race alongside three former season champions finishing the day with a win against number two in the points and the defending champion.

"This is just unreal", said Fair.  "I got to the track on Sunday morning with a broken motorcycle worried I would not get a chance to run".  "Somehow we made it to the first round, then the second and third and at the end of the day I found myself in the final for a chance at another National win".  "I am just so grateful for the result and for having Hazardous Sports, Hazardous Fluids, Vickery Motorsports and 1320go.com behind me this season".

Will Power Finishes Fourth in the Honda Indy 200

Sportsdrink+ athlete Will Power finished fourth in the Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio.  Power, who started 12th in the No. 8 Aussie Vineyards/Team Australia car for the 85 lap race, had taken an early call from his race strategist to change from rain tyres to slicks on lap 2 that set him up to be running third by lap 7 when others made the same move.  "We got the car better and better all weekend, made the right choice on tyres early on in the race and had a good race strategy".  "We had the pace to ride at the front and we did", said Power.  "I am just really happy that we got good championship points here and hopefully we can do that again next weekend in Edmonton".

Johnny Lewis Fourth in Supermoto Opener

Johnny Lewis of Team Evolve Moto/AxiomTV competing in his first XTRM/AMA race of the season with a new program, finished fourth in the Lites class.

"I am glad that the first AMA race is in the books after a long off-season", said Lewis who wears number 21.  "Whilst I have raced on the new Yamaha YZ250F in pre-season events and have felt very comfortable on it, this is the first race with the full motor work, suspension and entire set-up".  "I qualified third in my heat race and we came back to make adjustments", said Lewis.  "We went out in the main event and had a solid start and passed into fourth with a few laps left".

Brian Valin at Grattan Raceway

The third round of the Championship Enduro Series was held at Grattan Raceway.  This road course is the roughest and most challenging track on the CES circuit.  With the temperature reaching 90 degrees on Saturday afternoon, the event provided the perfect opportunity to demonstrate the physical  stamina required to compete in motor racing.  Sportsdrink+ athlete, Brian Valin competed in two back to back 30 minute enduro races, first in the HPV Pro Class and then in the Yamaha SSX Class.  In both classes, Brian set the best qualifying time.  The weekend provided a number of close finishes including the Sprint CIK Yamaha SSX race where he was beaten by Ryan Andrews of Detroit by just 0.026 seconds in a dramatic photo finish.  On Sunday, Brian's third race of the weekend, Brian beat his previous track record and finished in 1st position.

Cadel Evans Scores Yellow Jersey

Australian Cadel Evans pulled on the Tour de France yellow jersey for the first time after a gripping stage 10 mountain top finish.

Evans became the fifth Aussie, behind Phil Anderson, Stuart O'Grady, Brad McGee and Robbie McEwen, to wear the famous yellow jersey just a day after he feared his Tour dream had ended in a crash on a Pyrenean valley road.

Bobby Wilson - Second Place in Nashville

Sportsdrink+ athlete Bobby Wilson finished second in Nashville, his second top five finish of the season after qualifying 8th.  Bobby won at Milwaukee back in June 2008. 

"Pretty much it was just a ride in the park, just trying to work on the leader lap after lap, work through traffic and stay out of trouble", said Wilson.  "My car was really good, we had it dialled in and tried to remain consistent and not make mistakes".  "I think that endurance and consistent racing in these very hot and humid conditions is what got us second", said Wilson.

Matt Jaskol Scores First Super Late Model Win

Matt Jaskol was the surprise winner on the "Night of Fire" at the Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.  Sportsdrink+ athlete Jaskol held off the hard charging Gafforini and went on to score his first win of the year. 

"This is a fantastic result for everyone in our team, we have had some great races going this season and not been able to convert it into a win", said Jaskol.

Sportsdrink+ Athlete - Dane Cameron

Sportsdrink+ athlete Dane Cameron has racing in his genes.  Barely out of High School and racing formula Atlantic in North America, this rising star has already impressed and was selected as Open Wheel Racer of the Year by the Motorsport Press Association.  In addition to winning the 2007 Star Mazda Championship where he was both "Series Champion" and "Rookie of the Year", Dane was the F2000 "Rookie of the Year" and finished second in the championship.

Peppers Racing - Second in the OSS Championship

Mike and George Stancombe set their sights on the Offshore Super Series Powerboat Racing Association's third race of the season.  This race was about E.T, not speed.  "We spent all day Saturday testing new set ups to adjust to the single gear ratio", said Peppers/Lucas Oil throttleman Mike Stancombe.

Sunday morning with the set up decided, they headed to the water.  A last minute change was made, the green flag dropped and the team sprinted to the lead.  The Peppers team established a fifteen second lead when disaster struck, a sea strainer filled with seaweed and overheated the port motor.

"We were locked and loaded for the win, we didn't need this to happen".  "We wanted to show Amsoil's Bob Teague and Paul Whittier who was boss".  "They did get a taste, we will be back on top again", stated driver George Stancombe.

Peppers/Lucas Oil Racing are now in second place in the points for the OSS national championship and are hoping to add the title to their record as two time world champions and three time national champions.

Darren Manning - Second at Watkins Glen

Sportsdrink+ athlete Darren Manning's driving and the A.J Foyt/ABC Supply team's savvy pit strategy led to their season best finish of second in the Camping World Grand Prix at Watkins Glen International on Sunday afternoon.

"This strong finish doesn't surprise me because we have proved it every now and then but its nice to validate it on a weekend like this to everyone else", said Manning afterwards.

Jay Howard Back for Watkins Glen

Driving the No. 24 Roth Racing car this weekend in the Camping World Grand Prix at Watkins Glen will be Sportsdrink+ athlete Jay Howard.

"Happy to get back in the car is an understatement", said Howard who competed in the first four races of the season with the team.  "It's hard to describe my feelings when I'm on the sidelines watching".  "More than anything I'm looking forward at this point and not looking at what happened over the last five races", said Howard.  "I'm just going to go out and do what I do best and try to get a good result for the team".

Tough Weekend for Will Power

Team Australia and Sportsdrink+ athlete Will Power started 16th and never got a chance to move up in this weekends Indy Racing League at Richmond.  The race opened with a yellow flag when Ryan Hunter-Reay spun on the first lap.  During the restart (Lap 7), Power slid into the wall exiting turn four.

"I just got loose on the restart", said Power.  "I think I just got caught in the turbulence and it just took me by surprise".  "To be honest it really did".  " It is unfortunate because Aussie Vineyards/Team Australia really has worked hard", said Power.  "I came to have a clean race and get some points but it wasn't to be today".

Darren Manning - Richmond International Raceway

Sportsdrink+ athlete Darren Manning and A J Foyt's ABC Supply crew made lemonade out of the lemons they were given this weekend at Richmond International Raceway.

Darren was struck from behind on Lap 72 by Ryan Briscoe which caused him to do a quarter spin after which he was hit by Vitor Meira.  The crew inspected the car and saw that the left front lower wishbone was badly bent.  They hustled the car back to the garage and replaced the suspension piece.  Rejoining the race in 20th position brought a cheer from the 400 ABC Supply guests who were on hand for the race.  Manning logged laps to improve his position to 12th.

"It was a real shame to be knocked out early after we made some good calls strategy wise", said Darren.

Peppers Racing Finish 3rd in Florida

Sportsdrink+ athletes George and Michael Stancombe from Peppers Racing finished 3rd outright in the unlimited race from Sunny Isles Beach in Florida to Bimini in the Bahamas and back.  "This 100 mile race separated the men from the boys when we got into the Gulf Stream, it was rocking and rolling out there".  "We have a lot more in reserve for Sundays points race so we are very happy with a strong 3rd place in this shoot out today", said Mike Stancombe.

Robbie Maddison - X Fighters, Texas USA

X Fighters at the stock yards in Fort Worth Texas, saw Australian Robbie Maddison put on a huge show for the fans.  "I had a small crash yesterday, I lost my grip on take off and was over rotated for my last trick in qualifying last night".  "I have been getting iced up and some medical attention all day, I am ready to put on a show for the huge crowd that is here", said Maddison.  Robbie finished in 4th place after having to abort his semi final run after aggravating an old injury.

Troy Castaneda at Vallelunga

Hazardous athlete Troy Castaneda raced for the first time in the Italian Formula Master Championship.  After a great qualifying effort of 5th position, he was able to take his Hazardous Team Allen race car to a fantastic 6th place finish only to be penalized by the stewards and moved back to 10th.  Determined not to let the marginal stewards call get him down, Troy started from 10th and charged through the field to finish 5th.

"I'm so excited for the next race which is in 3 weeks at Magione, I want to make sure that I am prepared for this next race".  "I will continue training hard and look for a podium finish", said Castaneda.

Joel Miller In The Points

Finishing 2nd was Joel Miller, winner of Round 1 at Sebring who started on position 3 in his #20 JDC Motorsports/Mazda/K&N Air Filters Mazda.

"We suffered some adversity during the weekend including a small off-course excursion in Thursday morning practice", said Miller. "The humidity was very high this weekend making hydration a key issue".  "My car took a little while to come up to speed at the start of the race, so we hung on and sored some good championship points", said Miller.

Will Power Update - Texas Motor Speedway

Sportsdrink+ athlete, Will Power said "It was a good run, we learned a lot about the Aussie Vineyards/Team Australia car today".  "It was a crazy race, I had to stay very focused and mentally alert, we dodged a couple of bullets when people went into the wall but it was good fun and KV Racing is getting the hang of these ovals, so that's the main thing".

Morgan Lucas Advances To The Semi-Finals

 

Sportsdrink+ athlete, Morgan Lucas advanced to the semi-finals this weekend in Top Fuel Dragster held in Joliet IL.  Morgan could have gone further with another run in the semi's similar to either one of his runs in the first two rounds.  That 4.599 in his Round 1 win over Alan Bradshaw would have come in handy against Hot Rod Fuller two rounds later.

Australian Ryan Briscoe Wins

Ryan Briscoe narrowly avoided a crash with two laps remaining and went on to win the ABC Supply/A.J. Foyt 225 on Sunday at The Milwaukee Mile, his first victory in the IndyCar Series and the 300th victory in the history of Penske Racing.  Briscoe was leading Scott Dixon when Marco Andretti's car slid up the track at turn 2 and clipped Ed Carpenter's car which spun and hit the wall.  As Briscoe and Dixon approached the crash, Vitor Meira's car struck Andretti's car and became airborne.

Briscoe braked suddenly and missed the wreck, then idled around the track to win under caution.  "If I would have gotten caught up in that, I would have been under the bus crying right now, that's for sure", Briscoe said with a laugh afterward.

Jaskol Finishes Second In Vegas

Gafforini took the lead on the opening lap of the Super Late Model Challenge while Sportsdrink+ driver Matt Jaskol motored into second place under the green flag.

Jaskol drove to the inside of Gafforini on lap 26 to take the lead and took Jeff Connors with him for second.  One lap later, Connors orchestrated the same move to take the lead.  Jaskol finished a charging second and hopes to go one better this week at the Bull Ring in Las Vegas.  " We had a great car and I have to thank the team and all the crew for working so hard, it was a tough night with Jeff".  " I am glad I had plenty of Sportsdrink+ in my system as I was on maximum attack", said Jaskol after the race.

Taboo Wins In Marathon

Beautiful turquoise waters surrounding the historic Seven Mile Bridge of the Florida Keys was the setting for the Marathon Offshore Grand Prix where Team Taboo took first place and the overall Miss GEICO Top Gun Trophy for the best time of the day.  Race boats manouvered the course that took them between the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean, giving land and sea spectators a view of the high powered machines.  The Marathon race was the third on the SBIP/APBA Offshore national circuit.

Sportsdrink+ Top Fuel Driver - J.R Todd

The way Sportsdrink+ Top Fuel driver J.R Todd sees it, nothing in drag racing is more important than timing.  That's true on the race track where winning and losing can be determined by seconds and its true in the pits where being in the right place at the right time can transform a contender into a champion.

Todd is confident that he is in the right place to make that transformation in the 2008 NHRA Drag Racing Series.  The 26 year old Indiana native has joined 24 year old Morgan Lucas on the Lucas Oil Top Fuel team and he's confident that the team has the potential to put the John Stewart tuned Torco Racing Fuels/Seelye Wright dragster in the running for the championship

Will Power Has Best Oval Qualifying Session of Season

Milwaukee, WI - May 31, 2008 - KV Racing Technology had its best oval qualifying effort of the season as Sportsdrink+ driver Will Power qualified fourth for the ABC Supply/AJ Foyt 225 at the Milwaukee Mile in Milwaukee Wisconsin.

Power, KV Racing Technology #8 Aussie Vineyards - Team Australia Honda/Dallara/Firestone, had a four lap average of 167.265 mph and will start on the outside of row two.  Team driver Servia, KV Racing Technology #5 Honda/Dallara Firestone, will start on the inside of row five after averaging 165.190 mph.

"The team and I are really happy with my qualifying position", Power said.  "We ran upfront yesterday and in both practices today and the car has been running well around here, so we were confident coming into qualifying".  "I am really happy for Aussie Vineyards - Team Australia and I really like this race track".  "You can run behind people and pass them, which is fun", Power said.

Bobby Wilson Wins in Milwaukee

Sportsdrink+ driver Bobby Wilson passed pole sitter Pablo Donoso for the lead on Lap 13 and checked his rear view mirrors often afterward.

"The Team E guys put together a great car this weekend", said Wilson who led Simmons over the finish line by 0.0893 of a second.  "Our first win together couldn't have happened at a better place than the Milwaukee Mile".

"Coming to the Milwaukee Mile as a kid, it was always a dream for me to race here one day".  "To win here is even better", said Wilson.

It is the third Firestone Indy Lights victory for Bobby who became the second driver in the series history to win in three consecutive seasons (Watkins Glen in 2006 and on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road circuit in 2007)

+Team Athlete, Brian Valin

+Team athlete, Brian Valin age 16, is the 2007 HPV Pro Class Champion and has returned to defend his title in the highly competitive six race Championship Enduro Series in 2008.

Starting the season at Gateway International Speedway in   St. Louis, Brian battled tough conditions, tough competitors and rain to deliver a 1st and 3rd place.

The next series race will be held at Gratten raceway in Michigan on June 13-15 2008.  Brian has elected to travel with two carts and has entered three different races in an attempt to sweep the series.  Brian believes that Gratten will suit his driving style and that he has the experience to win the event.

Dixon wins!

Scott Dixon has a few days to celebrate his 92nd Indianapolis 500 victory, and then he will get back to business - the business of winning the IndyCar Series championship.

The 27-year-old, who won an IndyCar Series title in 2003, became the first native New Zealander to win the Indianapolis 500, leading 115 of 200 laps May 25. After drinking the milk in Victory Lane and posing for pictures with the Borg-Warner Trophy, Dixon hopes he can carry on another Indianapolis 500 tradition - winning the series title.

Indy Lights Track Record

A NEW TRACK RECORD - 191.412 mph. The fastest lap record for an Indy Lights car was shattered by Sportsdrink+ Pro Team Athlete Bobby Wilson in lap 16 of the Freedom 100 at Indianapolis, beating Ed Carpenter's 4-year old record. Congratulations Bobby from us all at Hazardous Fluids.

Coleman Gulick, Best In The Country!

Hazardous driver Coleman Gulick was rated the best 14 year old sprint car driver in the country by HammerdownUSA.com, a top Sprint Car Web Site based in California. HammerdownUSA.com rates the Top Sprint/Midget/Champ Dirt Car Drivers in the Country each year and Coleman tops the 14 Year Old List for 2008. “This entire List contains some pretty prestigious names, many whom we have raced with over the last few years and all of these drivers are that good. It is an honor for Coleman “The Iceman” to be recognized with this group.” said Pete Gulick.

Battisini: Freedom 100 Pole

Panther Racing's Dillon Battistini sped to a two-lap average speed of 188.397 mph during qualifying at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Thursday (May 22nd). The thirty-year old Brit's effort put him on the pole for tomorrow's Firestone Freedom 100 alongside Sam Schmidt Motorsports' James Davison (188.390 mph).

Hazardous Fluids athletes had a solid showing with Logan Gomez (+Team athlete) qualifying 9th, Bobby Wilson (+Team Pro athlete) qualifying 12th and Marc Williams (+ Team athlete) qualifying 14th.

Introducing +TeamPro member, Bobby Wilson

Bobby Wilson, 26, debuted in the Indy Pro Series in 2005 competing in three races for Brian Stewart Racing, the season after he won the Formula Ford 2000 Zetec championship. In 2006, he split the season between Michael Crawford Motorsports and Kenn Hardley Racing, recording his first series victory in the rain at Watkins Glen. Last year, he returned to Brian Stewart Racing winning on the road course at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Father’s Day. He finished fourth in the championship in both 2006 and 2007.

Despite his past success with established teams, Wilson believes this is his best opportunity to win the Firestone Firehawk Cup.

"I’m really pumped about the season," Wilson said after the team’s first test at Sebring International Raceway on January 24-25, 2008. "The test was the first day that everyone on the team was together, and we came out of the box hitting on all cylinders”.  “There were no hiccups, nothing missing”.

"I look at everybody else and ask, what will it take to beat them?”. “I don’t see anything that should keep us from being up front, winning is our goal, the championship is our ultimate goal."

Bobby will race in the Freedom 100 on “Carb Day” in an attempt to add another Indianapolis victory to his impressive record. We wish Bobby the best of luck and will ensure that his system is primed with plenty of Sportsdrink+ Bodily Fluids.

Joel Miller gets 3rd - Star Mazda Championship

Round 2 of the 2008 Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear took place at Miller Motorsport park in Utah, with MAZDASPEED/Sportsdrink+ young development driver Joel Miller starting from the front row. The race was not without incident as the lights went green, the field ran into turn one causing a multiple car incident which brought out the yellow flag.
 
Miller slotted in behind leader Edwards ready for the race re-start. Again the light went green with Miller running around the outside of Edwards causing both cars to touch.  This caused Miller to run wide and loose several places, dropping him to 9th position.
 
More drama was to affect Miller during the race as the temperature spike on the onboard dash illuminated.  Instructions from the JDC team to “go for it” provided Miller the incentive to fight through the field and finish on the podium in 3rd place.
 
Special thanks must go to JDC Motorsports efforts this weekend after Joel suffered two suspension failures and an engine change due to a loss of power.

Setback for Giebler

Sportsdrink+ Phil Giebler was the 33rd fastest qualifier for the 2007 Indianapolis 500 and his efforts earned him the Chase Rookie of the Year award. The Californian was so inspired with his initial experience that he couldn't wait for the next go-around. But his dream vanished Saturday afternoon when he crashed heavily during his first day on the track.



"Phil pushed it too hard, too fast but he's okay as far as we know," team co-owner Eric Zimmerman said shortly after the crash. Regarding the condition of the car and the bad luck experienced by the team, he added, "The car is not repairable but that's racing."

"Phil's career is exactly what American Dream is all about," Zimmerman said on Friday. "He's an excellent driver and he just needs a break to make good. We picked him up as we believe he's a perfect candidate for us."

The likable driver will undoubtedly race again as his spirits won't be dashed after his bout with the wall. Prior to the crash he had said, "I have tried to make the Indianapolis 500 be like any other race but it is so different, and so special, it can't be done. It is good to be here."

Manning qualifies for Indy 500

Fine tuning car setup has paid off for Darren Manning allowing him to qualify in 14th spot. (No. 14 ABC Supply Co./AJ Foyt Racing, qualified 14th)

"It was really good. I've been struggling with my car all month, and that's the best it's been. I've been loose all month, and then all of a sudden we made a few changes and then I had understeer. You know the day's not very nice with all this wind and the temperature has been getting up there, so we were a bit cautious on downforce. So we were actually surprised to go so fast, but it was just because the car was that much better.

I had to actually come off the gas a little on Turn 2 on the last lap, which dropped me out of fastest for the day. We're in the show, so now we'll go back and think about it a little and see if we can run some good, competitive race runs. I think I'm going to be faster than the guys around me, and it's a long race, so we should be all right."

Indianapolis Rookie Returns

Majority ownership of Playa Del Racing has been purchased by former Indiana Boxing Commissioner William T. Kelsey and Arizona businessman Eric Zimmerman and will be known as American Dream Motorsports.

American Dream Motorsports will attempt to qualify for the 92nd Indianapolis 500 with 2007 Chase Rookie of the Year Phil Giebler behind the wheel of the No. 21 Honda-powered Panoz.

Giebler qualified 33rd in 2007 and finished as the "Rookie of the year".

"It's hard to put into words what it means to return to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the Indy 500," Giebler said. "I had a huge learning curve in my rookie run last year, but I plan on this being a much better year. To say Indy is all I've thought about for the last 12 months would be an understatement."
